Review: BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal
The BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector walks that fine line between “Wow, you look so luminous!” and “Here, let me lend you some blotting papers”.
This product is a golden sand color. It looks nothing like the lovely pink that is displayed on the Sephora website. This means that for someone like me, who has skin on the lighter end of the spectrum, this is less luminizer and more shimmery liquid bronzer.
If you can get over the color discrepancy between the website and the real product (and the fact that it might work as a bronzer for you), and if you can apply it in a way that avoids emphasizing any greasiness, this is actually a very attractive product. It blends nicely and it has just the right amount of shimmer to draw your attention without looking fake.
Although I like this product, if I were to purchase a full-size version, I would definitely choose ‘Pearl’, the lightest color availible, over ‘Opal’.
The BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector retails for $41 for 1.7 oz, or $24.12 per ounce. (Why they are selling this product in a container twice as large as a bottle of foundation, I have no fucking idea.) For comparison, the Stila All Over Shimmer Liquid Luminizer is $20 for 0.5 oz ($40 per ounce), and Benefit’s Girl Meets Pearl is $30 for 0.4 oz ($75 per ounce). That makes BECCA substantially less expensive ounce per ounce, but also a much larger initial investment. Thus, I might recommend this to someone with serious product loyalty (someone who will use it every single day forever), but not to a makeup slut, such as myself, who buys new products every time she sees something fancy.
